Husson No 22 Peg Lamp LSide.JPG - HUSSON NO. 22 PEG LAMP - Rare Husson No. 22 peg lamp, tin construction with copper spout tip and liner and heater wire with coil around inside bottom, screw top with copper candlestick slot, bottom with soldered tube to fit inside candlestick thimble, font dia. at base 2 1/4 in. and 2 in. at top, font 3 3/8 in. tall from base to top of slot on screw top, peg on bottom 3/4 in. dia. and 1 1/2 in. long offset to side, marked 22 on base, manufactured by Knippenberg Mfg. Co., unfired condition, found at an auction in Carrizozo, NM (The Husson peg lamp was an option for miners who couldn't give up their candlesticks but were amenable to using oil wick lamps. The peg soldered to the bottom would fit a standard 3/4 in. candle diameter thimble on a miners' candlestick. The copper or brass slot on the screw top lid would also allow a candlestick shaft to be inserted to hold the wick lamp. Lamp variations without the peg but with the slot on top (Husson No. 20) as well as the lamp without the slot or peg but with double hooks exist (Husson No. 3). An interesting aspect of the peg lamp has to do with the copper heater wire that's seen protruding out of the spout. This wire continues down the copper spout lining and curls around the inside bottom of the font in a full circle with the purpose of heating the Sunshine fuel to a liquid state. The wire would have been inserted prior to closing the font during lamp assembly.)
